FILE MENU New Game starts a new game (asks what the players’ names are, etc.) Open Game asks for the name of a file where a previously saved game is stored. Save Game saves the current game to a file which you specify. Quit Knockoffaly exits cleanly. KNOCKOFFALY MENU Help displays an explanation of the menu on your screen. Rev Throttle makes the game go faster. Knockoffaly accumulates quite a bit of garbage during play and after some time, play will slow down. If you get bogged down, Rev it up. Sound toggles sound on or off for those quieter moments. Roll rolls the dice for the current player and advances his token. Collect Fee is enabled if the current player owes a fee to the owner of the square he is on. If so, pays the owner. Pending fees are erased once the next player rolls. If the auto-collect option is on (see Params) this menu item is permanently dimmed, as fees are automatically collected. Make Deal asks you to click the names of two players who wish to do a private deal (if there are more than two playing.) Hint: Click or do a Get Info on the squares you want to trade to view their info before you choose Make Deal. Player Status asks you to click the name of a player you wish to see information about. You can see his properties, his net worth, location, etc. You can also status a player by Shift-clicking on his name. Get Info asks you to click the name of a property you wish to see information about. It displays an information card about a property square. Click the card to dismiss it. The easiest way to get the info about any square is to just click the square directly. Get Info only displays info on property squares but any square’s info (such as there is) displays when you click directly. Use Get Info mainly when someone’s token is on a property square pre-empting the mouseclick. Build/Plant asks you how many units you wish to purchase, then flashes message at the bottom of the screen telling you to click where you want to start building or planting. If you specify more units than you can pay for, or if you violate zoning laws, you can only build until you run out of money or actually violate the laws. Sell bldgs/crops asks you how many units you wish to sell, then flashes a message at the bottom of the screen. If you specify more units than you have, or if you violate zoning laws, the program quits selling your buildings/crops at that time. Mortgage asks you to click a square you wish to take out a mortage on. You will immediately be given the square’s mortage value in cash and the square (except for its color bar) will turn black (B&W) or grey (Color) to show that it is mortgaged. Lift Mortgage asks you to click a square you wish to pay back the mortgage on. You are assessed the mortgage value that you originally received plus whatever the current percentage is. The square returns to its normal color. Bankruptcy asks you to click the name of the player going bankrupt. It auctions off his or her remaining property, with unbought properties reverting to the bank. Bankruptcy also kicks in automatically whenever a player’s cash debt is greater than his net worth. Hint: Don’t declare bankruptcy until you have made private deals on everything you can. GOODIES MENU Goodies Help displays a list of the goodies menu items on your screen. About this Config causes the author’s credit (if it exists) for the current configuration to be displayed. Load Config asks you for a different configuration file. It kills the game in progress (if any), reads the new game data from the file, then displays the board associated with that file. Note: the configuration file can be anywhere, but the board files must be in the boards subfolder within the Knockoffaly folder. Set Options allows you to modify certain game parameters (such as whether or not to you collect fines at the bus stop, whether or not you can cheat, etc.) on the fly. This menu item is for registered users only, as it dips into the Knockoffaly editor, and leeches don’t get the Knockoffaly editor. Leeches will get an error message if they try to use Set Options. Leeches deserve to get an error message. They are not worth writing a trap for.
